Mental Health in the Workplace

If you are a regular reader of this newsletter or if you have ever done business with Finch & Daisy, you know that we do things a little differently here. We are willing to address things that other companies maybe do not address. One of those things is understanding the importance of mental health and of being aware of one’s own mental health. What better time than Mental Health Awareness Month to dedicate our newsletter to some tips and tricks to bring balance to everyone’s mental health. We have talked to a few F&D Team members about how they keep their mental health in mind during the work day and here are a few of the recurring tips:

  • Get Enough Sleep – Sleep is one of the most important aspects of ensuring you have strong mental health. Getting less than 7-9 hours of sleep leads to lower energy, bad moods, and lower motivation.

  • Get Outdoors – It is important to take some time away from work during the day and get outdoors…assuming the weather is cooperative. At F&D we try to “give back” a few minutes each week and end our team meetings early so team members can get outside and soak up the sun and get some important vitamin D, which helps improve mood and focus.

  • Be Gracious – Whether it is self-reflection about what you are personally gracious about or sharing with others what you are grateful for, gratitude in the work place has been linked to increased job satisfaction, greater connection to co-workers, and less stress.

  • Slow Down – This is important not only at work but also in life. We all need to remember that we do not need to go a million miles an hour all the time, because rushing from project to project and place to place leads to increased stress and increased chances of burnout. Slowing it down allows you to focus on what is in front of you now and will help lower blood pressure.

  • Laugh with Co-Workers – Laughing stimulates your brain and leads to increased endorphin levels, which helps your body feel better. Plus, laughing with co-workers builds camaraderie with those people you spend so much of your life with.

What are some tips you do to keep mental health in mind? This is such an important topic and we are all in it together so it is important to share these tips and make sure we all have each other’s backs.

Get to Know F&D

  1. How Long Have You Been With F&D: A little over a year.

  2. Favorite Movie: I don’t watch many movies, but I will watch any of the Star Wars movies again and again. The original trilogy are my favorites.

  4. Favorite Band: Trivium.

  5. If you could have any job in the world, what would you do? I would love to run an animal sanctuary to take in tons of pets that need a warm loving home.

  6. Where is the most breathtaking place you’ve ever travelled? The Cliffs of Moher.

  7. Fun Fact About You: My family has a traveling cat named Grandma, who has lived with my parents, brother, and myself.

Pictured is Cassie, with Grandma, the traveling cat, on one of her recent trips. Thank you for sharing Cassie! Look for our next Get to Know F&D participant next month!
